- You haven’t had a home inspection in a long time
- You’ve decided to switch to a new home insurance company
- You use a particular heating system such as a wood stove or oil furnace

What does a home insurance inspection entail?
Insurance companies conduct home insurance inspections free of charge and arrange them at your convenience and with your consent. Depending on your situation, a qualified representative will either limit their inspection to the exterior of your house or conduct a more in-depth evaluation of your property. This includes looking at the following components:
- Your home’s heating, electrical, HVAC and plumbing systems
- Any wood-burning appliances
- The foundation of your home and the surrounding terrain
- Signs of structural or water damage, including cracks, stains, mold or mildew
- Signs of rodents or insect infestations
- Safety features such as smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, fire extinguishers, and anti-theft devices such as security and surveillance systems
The inspection may take anywhere from 15 to 60 minutes.
What can I expect after my home insurance inspection is completed?
After the Property inspector has completed the home inspection and issued a report, we will submit your results to you or we will submit directly to the Insurance Company. If significant safety issues come up that can be remedied, you may be given the option to complete any needed repairs within a set deadline to continue your existing coverage. Your home insurance rate could also increase if potential liabilities have been identified that increase the risk of making a claim. On the flip side, it could also decrease if you’ve made recent home improvements.
